Women's Tennis tops No. 23 Oklahoma, 4-2

Longhorns score first top-25 win of the season in conference opener at Norman.
NORMAN, Okla. – Texas (3-6, 1-0 Big 12) won the doubles point and picked up singles wins from senior Lina Padegimaite, freshman Dani Wagland and sophomore Ratnika Batra in a 4-2 win over No. 23 Oklahoma (11-3, 1-1 Big 12) Friday evening at OU's Headington Family Tennis Center.
Texas won the doubles point by way of wins at the first and third doubles positions. Junior Breaunna Addison and Wagland opened with a 6-3 win over the Sooners' Malene Stripp and Emma Devine at first doubles. UT nailed down the doubles point at the third position, where Batra and classmate Pippa Horn held off OU's Christie Brigante and Zita Engbroks, 6-4. The remaining match at second doubles was suspended.
Oklahoma evened the match with a win at sixth singles before UT's Padegimaite responded with a 6-3, 6-2 win over OU's Brigante at fifth singles. The Sooners tied the match at two with a straight-sets win at first singles, but Texas closed out the team victory with wins and the third and fourth courts.
The freshman Wagland dropped her first set in a tiebreak to Engbroks at fourth singles, but the Australian took control from there and rallied to a 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-2 win. Batra closed out her match and won in similar fashion at third singles. Batra dropped her first set to Abbi Melrose before dominating the ensuing two sets.
Batra took the second set, 6-1 and claimed the deciding set by a 6-2 count to close out the 4-2 Texas win. The remaining match at second singles was abandoned.
Texas closes out its weekend road swing on Saturday when it visits No. 10 Oklahoma State. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CT.
