Okolo, Sategna receive Big 12 postseason awards

Longhorns recognized for conference championship efforts

AUSTIN, Texas – After winning titles at the Big 12 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships last week in Ames, Iowa, Texas Head Coach Mario Sategna and sprinter Courtney Okolo were recognized by the conference on Wednesday.
Okolo was named the Women's Indoor Track and Field Co-Outstanding Performer of the Year along with Kansas State's Akela Jones and Baylor's Rachel Johnson. Okolo attempted an unprecedented double in the Big 12 winning the 600 yards and then 30 minutes later attempting to win the 400 meters. She finished fourth in the 400. Okolo also ran the third leg of the Big 12 champion 4x400 meter relay. She was responsible for 17.5 points to help lead Texas to the team title.
Sategna was named the Big 12 Conference Men's Coach of the Year by his peers. He guided the Longhorns to a dominating performance on the men's side to win the title by more than 40 points. Texas amassed 140 team points during the championship meet and won four individual titles.
This marks the eighth time a Longhorns has been named an indoor performer of the year. Marielle Hall won the award for Texas last year as well. It is the sixth indoor men's coach of the year award for Texas in the Big 12 era and the first for Sategna.
Sategna and Okolo will turn their attention to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships next week in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The women's team has nine entries in the meet while the men have eight.
