AUSTIN, Texas – Texas senior middle blocker Molly McCage has been selected as one of 30 women's Division I volleyball players for the prestigious 2015 Senior CLASS Award, the program announced on Wednesday.
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and possess notable achievements in four specific areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
McCage has played in all five matches so far in her senior season, posting 32 kills (1.78/set) on a .315 hitting percentage. She is second on the Longhorn squad and eighth in the Big 12 Conference with 22 blocks (1.22/set). In Texas' win over No. 4 Nebraska on September 4, McCage finished with five kills and a team-high seven blocks.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in December.
