Five Longhorns Headed to World Championships

AUSTIN, Texas – With the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships coming to Portland, Oregon, later this week, team rosters are being unveiled and five Texas Longhorns will represent their home countries at the meet.
USA Track & Field announced its roster for Team USA this afternoon on Twitter. The women's team features four Longhorns, more than any other school.
The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association also announced its team on Monday and Texas junior Chrisann Gordon is listed. She is listed among the eligible runners in Jamaica's 4x400 meter relay pool.
For Team USA, three former Longhorns and one current is headed to Portland.
Senior Courtney Okolo was named to the roster as a member of the 4x400 meter relay pool. She is coming off her successful defense of her NCAA title in the 400 meters. Okolo's time of 50.69 seconds was a new school record and is the fastest time in the world this year.
Texas Exes Michelle Carter, Ashley Spencer and Kendra Chambers also will wear the Red, White and Blue.
Carter won the shot put at last weekend's USATF Championships, marking her third indoor title and ninth overall at USATF Championships.
Spencer finished second in the 400 meters and will run that event as well as be in the relay pool for the 4x400.
Chambers finished sixth in the 400 meters and is listed on the roster in the 4x400 relay pool.
The IAAF World Indoor Championships is slated to begin Thursday from the Oregon Convention Center and run through Sunday. This marks the first time the IAAF has held a senior world championship event in the United States. Eugene, Oregon, hosted the IAAF World Junior Championships in 2014, marking the first time any IAAF World Championship event had been held in U.S.
Fans can watch the IAAF World Championships online via NBC Sports Live Extra and the Live Extra app for smartphones and tablets. Thursday's broadcast will begin at 10 p.m. Action will air on Friday from 1:30-6 p.m. Three hours of action will be aired Saturday from 8-11 p.m. and the meet will close Sunday from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
If more Longhorns are added to their respect team rosters for the IAAF World Championships, the Texas Athletics Communications office will update their status.
