Ghim finishes first day 1-1 at Palmer Cup

Sophomore Doug Ghim won his second match of the day after making birdies on holes six and eight.
FORMBY, England – Texas sophomore Doug Ghim made two birdies during his second round to lift his duo past Europe, 2&1 during the four-ball match at the Palmer Cup on Friday.
With teammate Will Zalatoris, Ghim claimed the first match of the day for the United States, defeating Sam Horsfield and Adrian Meronk.
Europe took its only lead when Horsfield birdied No. 5. A Ghim birdie on the next hole moved the match to all square. Another birdie by Ghim at the eighth gave Team USA the lead. The Americans would extend the lead to 2-up thru No. 15 and closed out the match when both Zalatoris and Horsfield birdied No. 17.
Ghim and Zalatoris fell in their first match of the day to Meronk and Matthias Schwab, 1-up.
Europe leads after day one, 6-4.
Ghim will take on Robin Petersson in a singles match on Saturday, teeing off at 4:24 a.m. CT.
