Sprinter awaits announcement for relay pool
EUGENE, Ore. – Chrisann Gordon ran one of her best races of the season on Sunday at the Jamaican Olympic Trials and came up just short of qualifying for the Olympic Games.
Gordon crossed the finish line in 51.09 seconds, just off her personal best of 51.03, to finish in sixth place at her country's Olympic Trials. She was .67 behind third place.
With her finish in sixth place she could still make Team Jamaica for the Olympics as a member of the 4x400 meter relay. The Jamaican Athletics Administrative Association will announce the six runners in the relay pools for the 4x400 and 4x100 at a later date.
"Chrisann put it all on the line tonight," said Assistant Coach Seth Henson who is in Jamaica for the Trials. "From lane 8 she knew she had to be aggressive from the blocks to the finish line. We are all very proud of her effort this evening. She showed true Texas Fight."
Gordon led through much of the race before hitting a strong headwind on the home stretch.
Fellow Jamaican Longhorn Senoj-Jay Givans was attempting to qualify for the Olympic Games this weekend in Kingston. He put together an impressive series of runs in the 100 meters, clocking in at 10.06 in the final to finish in sixth place. He was barely edged out by Usain Bolt in the semifinals when he ran 10.05 and Bolt was in at 10.04.
Givans and Gordon are both eligible for Jamaica's relay pools. They will await the official announcement of the team from the Jamaican Athletics Administrative Association to see if they are selected for the 4x100 or 4x400 relays.
