Boswell, Johnston earn top California Collegiate League honors

Texas Baseball shortstop Bret Boswell was named league MVP and RHP Kyle Johnston was named Most Outstanding Pitcher.
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The California Collegiate League announced its 2016 All-League team, with Texas Baseball shortstop Bret Boswell picking up Most Valuable Player honors and right-handed pitcher Kyle Johnston selected as the league's Most Outstanding Pitcher. Santa Barbara Foresters teammate and Longhorns right-hander Connor Mayes was also named to the All-League team as starting pitcher.
The trio of Longhorns, along with Texas right-handed pitcher Nick Kennedy, helped lead the Foresters to the California Collegiate League title this summer.
Boswell, who was earlier named the CCL Tournament MVP, compiled a league-high .393 average to go along with with 17 doubles, two triples and nine home runs. The Longhorns shortstop also amassed in 36 RBI in 37 games.
Johnston finished the summer ball season with a league-best 1.75 ERA, allowing just nine earned runs in 46.1 innings pitched while striking out 47 batters.
Boswell, Johnston and Mayes are currently playing with the Foresters in the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kansas.
