Women's Tennis earns three semifinals berths at ITA Texas Regional Championships

Bianca Turati and Petra Granic reach the singles semifinals, while Dani Wagland and Marta Perez-Mur advance to the doubles semifinals.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas earned a pair of singles semifinals berths and a bid to the doubles semifinals Sunday on day three of the annual ITA Texas Regional Championships.
"The Longhorns certainly got a belly full of vicious competition today," said UT head coach Howard Joffe. "The ladies had a very successful day with Petra Granic and Bianca Turati advancing in singles, and Marta Perez-Mur and Dani Wagland did the same in doubles. We also left a match or two out there as well with Bojana Markovic having a plethora of opportunities in her match. All in all, it was very encouraging, and tomorrow will be another exciting day."
Top-seeded sophomore Bianca Turati won a pair of matches to land a spot in Monday's semifinals. The 24th-ranked Turati dealt SMU's 77th-ranked Liza Buss a 6-4, 6-4 defeat in the round of 16 before knocking off Baylor's Jessica Hinojosa Gomez in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-2. Turati takes on either Maria Kononova of North Texas or TCU's Meredith Roberts in Monday's semifinals.
Sophomore Petra Granic followed suit and won a pair of matches. The 39th-ranked Croatian finished off Baylor's Angie Shakhraichuk, 7-6 (6), 6-1 in the round of 16 before dealing Houston's 85th-ranked Tsveta Dimitrova a 6-2, 6-1 defeat in the quarterfinals. Granic will meet TCU's Alexandra Zenovka in Monday's semifinals.
Senior Dani Wagland joined freshman Marta Perez-Mur to reach the doubles semifinals. The Texas tandem held off Texas Tech's Sarah Dvorak and Felicity Maltby, 8-5 and will meet North Texas' top-seeded duo of Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze on Monday.
The two singles finalists and the doubles champion from the ITA Texas Regional will earn bids to next month's ITA National Fall Championships.
