Men's Basketball falls at Oklahoma, 70-66

Allen registers 10th double-double of season with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
NORMAN, Okla. – Freshman forward Jarrett Allen recorded his 10th double-double of the year with 17 points and 10 rebounds, but Texas fell 70-66 at Oklahoma on Tuesday night at the Lloyd Noble Center. Allen paced four Longhorns in double-figure scoring, as he converted 8-of-16 from the floor and added two blocks in a career-high 37 minutes of action.
Sophomore guard Kerwin Roach Jr. scored 13 points and contributed a team-high five assists, while freshman guard Andrew Jones added 12 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Shaquille Cleare reached double figures in scoring for the third time in the past four games, recording 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting and six rebounds.
Oklahoma (9-16, 3-10 Big 12) received a big boost from its bench, registering a 35-10 advantage in bench scoring on the night. The Sooners were paced by Jamuni McNeace with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Texas (10-16, 4-9 Big 12) jumped out to an early 9-2 lead following a hook from Cleare at the 17:18 mark. Jones scored eight of UT's first 15 points heading into the first media timeout, as the Longhorns built a 15-9 advantage with 15:24 remaining.
Texas extended its lead to eight (29-21) with 6:48 left following back-to-back baskets from Cleare and Allen. The Sooners clawed back and took its first lead of the half (38-37) after a C.J. Cole putback at the 1:22 mark. A Roach layup gave the Longhorns a 39-38 advantage at the break. Texas made 60.7-percent (17-of-28) of its shots from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
The Longhorns scored the first six points of the second half, stretching the cushion to 45-38 and forcing Oklahoma to take an early timeout at the 17:54 mark. The Sooners answered with a 14-2 run over a stretch of 6:58 to claim a 53-49 lead with 9:37 remaining.
Texas regained the lead with five straight points (54-53) at the 8:15 mark. Trailing 56-55 with 5:35 remaining following a Jones layup, the Sooners used a 10-1 run capped by a Kameron McGusty jumper at the 2:04 mark to build a 65-57 advantage.
The Longhorns rallied to make it a one-possession game (67-64) with 31 seconds left following a Kendal Yancy put-back. But that was as close as Texas would get the rest of the way.
UT resumes Big 12 Conference play at home against Kansas State on Saturday, Feb. 18, presented by Cheez-It. Tip is set for 1 p.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center, and the game will be televised nationally on Longhorn Network.
