Head Coach Ryan Murphy
On the Scarlet Course: Imagine a golf course that plays long, has tight fairways, firm greens, and high rough. And then add a 20-mile per hour wind. That was the Scarlet Course this week at Ohio State. It is as difficult a test as you can find in college golf. It was a comprehensive exam.
On the team: Any time you have a chance to win, your team has played well. We did a lot of good things this week, but this course also caught some people off guard. Winning would have been nice, but seeing this course, learning a few things, and improving is a reward as well. That's why we came here.
On individual performances: Individually, Haley had a great week. She did not finish how she wanted, but overall she played some really strong golf. She shot under par here yesterday and if you can do it here, you can do it anywhere. I'm very proud of Haley's effort this week.
On Schubert: Sophia's week was just terrific. Winning is not easy. Winning after sitting on the lead can be even more difficult. She made up her mind today that she was going to play with confidence and she did.
Comprehensively, Sophia's game is really solid now, obviously. Her ball-striking was incredible, her iron play was strong, she's thinking well, and she got some putts to drop this week. It was some of the best golf I have had the pleasure to watch in person…woman, man, amateur, professional. It was simply terrific. I'm very proud of Sophia's play. She deserved to win this week.
