Baseball places nine on Academic All-Big 12 teams

Six Longhorns were named to the first team and three picked up second team honors.
IRVING, Texas—The Big 12 Conference released its 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team today, which featured a total of nine Longhorns between the first and second teams.
In all, 89 student-athletes are honored on the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team. The team is comprised of 54 first team members and 35 second team honorees.
Texas' six first-team honorees include Bret Boswell (sport management), Michael Cantu (sport management), Morgan Cooper (sport management), Travis Jones (finance), Michael McCann (supply chain management) and Jake McKenzie (petroleum engineering).
Seniors Kacy Clemens (finance) and Zane Gurwitz (applied learning and development), along with sophomore Nick Kennedy (corporate communication), earned second team distinction.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
