Men’s Golf’s Ghim wins two to lead Team USA at Palmer Cup

The United States and Europe are all square after day one.
JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Texas Men's Golf senior Doug Ghim won both matches on the first day of the Arnold Palmer Cup at Atlanta Athletic Club on Friday to make the score all-square between Team USA and Team Europe.
In the first matches of the day, Ghim and USC's Sean Crocker captured a second match for Team USA with a 4 and 2 victory over Fredrik Nilehn and Hannes Ronneblad.
The match stood all-square until the Americans won No. 8. The Americans did not lose a hole and closed the match with birdie at No. 16.
In the afternoon four-ball session, Ghim and Stanford's Maverick McNealy evened the overall team standing by downing Harry Ellis and Harry Hall 3 and 2. Ghim gave Team USA an early lead with birdie at No. 1, but Europe moved the match to all square by claiming the third hole. McNealy pushed the Americans ahead with a pair of birdies at Nos. 6 and 7 and Ghim won the eighth to push the lead to 3-up. Back-to-back birdies by Harry Hall moved Europe to 1-down thru 11. McNealy birdied Nos. 13 and 16 to close out the match.
Texas Head Coach John Fields is serving as Head Coach for the United States.
Third-round singles matches tee off Saturday, June 10 at 8:00 a.m. CT, with Ghim teeing off at 8:10 a.m. to face Harry Hall.
