No. 1 Volleyball bounces back with 3-1 win over No. 18 Oregon

GAINESVILLE, Florida – Senior Chiaka Ogbogu and freshman Lexi Sun posted double-digit kills as No. 1 Texas defeated No. 18 Oregon, 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23) in Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday night.
Ogbogu posted 10 kills and only three errors on 15 attempts for a .467 hitting percentage, also contributing five blocks and a team-high three service aces.
Sun led the Longhorns with 14 kills for her second-straight match with double-digit kills, hitting .231, adding eight digs and five blocks.
Ogbogu and Sun were two of six players named to the VERT Challenge All-Tournament Team.
Senior Cat McCoy and freshman Ashley Shook led the team in digs with 11 each, while sophomores Claire Hahn and Autumn Rounsaville posted seven and six digs, respectively.
Shook finished with a team-high 38 assists, and junior Morgan Johnson led the Longhorns with seven blocks.
As a team, UT hit .209 to Oregon's .159, outblocked Oregon 13 to seven, and recorded five service aces to the Ducks' two.
The two teams began the match locked point-for-point, until a 5-1 scoring run for Texas with kills from Sun and Ogbogu gave the Longhorns breathing space at 10-6. With Oregon battling back through a scoring run of their own, the Ducks tied Texas' lead at 22-22 before taking the opening set at 25-23.
Oregon's momentum took the Ducks to a 5-2 lead starting the second set, before a McCoy service ace capped four-straight points for Texas to tie the score at 9-9. A block from Sun and Johnson opened a two-point Texas lead at 18-16 and sprung a 9-1 scoring run for the Longhorns, taking the second set, 25-17.
Texas held two- and three-point leads through the start of the third set before Oregon tied the scores at 12-12. The teams traded points, but Sun's tenth kill opened a three-point lead at 19-16. Holding onto the lead, the Longhorns closed out the set at 25-22 to take a 2-1 match score lead.
Trailing Oregon early on in the fourth set, Texas' hitting advantage, .227 to the Ducks' .192 at 11-15, converted into a 10-6 run for the Longhorns to tie the score at 21-21. The Longhorns extended the run to match point at 24-22, before a fifth block of the match from Ogbogu secured the victory.
The Longhorns will stay on the road for the USD Tournament in San Diego, Calif., facing Villanova on Friday, Sept. 1 and Georgia Tech and No. 22 San Diego on Saturday, Sept. 2.
