Former Longhorn football player and professional baseball player is set to join primary team of Craig Way and Roger Wallace to call Texas Baseball games for the 2018 season.
AUSTIN, Texas—The Longhorn IMG Radio Network and its flagship station, "The Horn" 104.9 FM/AM 1260 in Austin, have announced its radio broadcast crew for the 2018 Texas Longhorn baseball season. In addition to primary play-by-play voice Craig Way, who returns for his 18th season as "Voice of the Longhorns," and Roger Wallace, who will return for his eighth season as the primary analyst and backup play-by-play voice, Longhorn for Life Quan Cosby, who has served as the sideline reporter for football broadcasts on the Longhorn IMG Radio Network for the past five seasons, joins the baseball broadcast team for the upcoming season.
Cosby, an outfielder, was drafted in the sixth-round by the Anaheim Angels out of Mart High School in 2001. He went on to play four seasons in the Angels farm system before deciding to return to school to play football and signing with the Longhorns. At Texas he was a two-time All-Big 12 receiver, Biletnikoff semifinalist and finished his Longhorn career ranked second on the UT all-time receptions list (212), third in receiving yards (2,598) and fourth in TD catches (19). As a true freshman, Cosby was a key contributor on the Longhorns 2005 National Championship team and went on to play four years in the NFL. He currently serves as Vice President, Risk Management, for Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC in Austin.
"We're very excited to have Quan Cosby as part of our baseball broadcast team," said Way, who serves as Sports Director for the Austin Radio Network. "His knowledge, work ethic, and enthusiasm for our network football broadcasts are a big part of why he is excellent as our sideline reporter, and he absolutely wowed us with his baseball knowledge and acumen in the past as a guest analyst. We're thrilled to have him on the broadcast team."
"I know Longhorn fans know how much I love baseball," Cosby said. "I talk about it all the time and get to as many games as I possibly can. I have my day job, which is going well, so being a part of the radio team will be something I do because of my love for the game. I've really enjoyed working the sidelines at football games for the past few years with Craig and Roger so getting in the booth for some baseball games this year is a great opportunity. I'm really looking forward to it and can't wait to see everyone at the Disch."
Former Longhorn All-American Keith Moreland, who serves as analyst on Texas baseball home telecasts for Longhorn Network, will also join the radio broadcast team on selected road games. Moreland was the primary analyst for Texas baseball from 1996-2013.
Veteran broadcasters Tom Barfield and Dave Garrett will also contribute on selected Texas Baseball broadcasts in 2018.
"The Horn," 104.9 FM/101.9 FM and AM 1260, is in its third season as the flagship station of University of Texas athletics and is part of the Austin Radio Network, which also features KOKE 98.5/99.3 FM and 105.3 FM "The Bat", all of which broadcasts Texas team sports including football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, and softball.
Texas Baseball opens its 2018 season on Friday, February 16, as it hosts the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The annual Fan Appreciation Day and Alumni Game is scheduled for Saturday, February 3.
