Bianca Turati ends run in Round of 16 at ITF Florence (S.C.) pro event

Junior All-American falls to WTA No. 309 Maria Mateas (USA) on Thursday.
FLORENCE, S.C. — University of Texas junior Bianca Turati dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 match to Maria Mateas (USA) on Thursday in the Round of 16 at the ITF (International Tennis Federation) pro circuit event at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center. Thursday's contest lasted two hours and 21 minutes.
In the opening set, Mateas jumped out to a 5-1 advantage. Turati rallied to win the next three games to pull within 5-4, but Mateas closed out the set with a break of Turati.
The second set stayed on serve through the first four games. Turati broke Mateas to gain a 3-2 lead, but Mateas responded with a service break of Turati to even the set at 3-3. Mateas then held serve and broke Turati to move to 5-3. Turati answered with a break of her own to climb within 5-4, but Mateas broke Turati again to close out the match.
Mateas is No. 309 in the most recent WTA (Women's Tennis Association) world singles rankings. Turati entered the Florence event at No. 474 in the latest WTA world singles rankings.
