Granic advances to final round of singles qualifying at Riviera/ITA All-Americans

With a pair of victories on Tuesday, the UT junior needs one more win Wednesday to reach the tournament’s main draw.
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — University of Texas junior Petra Granic recorded a pair of victories on Tuesday in qualifying singles action at Riviera Tennis Center in the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. Granic advances to Wednesday's final round of qualifying and will face Harvard's 67th-ranked Erica Oosterhout (1:45 p.m. CT) for a spot in the tournament's main draw.
Granic, No. 40 in the Oracle/ITA preseason national singles rankings, opened the tournament by rallying for a three-set win (1-6, 7-5, 6-2) against No. 68 Tsveta Dimitrova of Florida. Later in the afternoon, Granic returned to the courts and registered a straight-set (6-4, 6-4) victory over No. 64 Jessica Golovin of LSU.
Junior Anna Turati, No. 21 in the preseason rankings, posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Mississippi State's Magda Adologlou in the first round of qualifying. Turati later dropped a hard-fought three-set contest (3-6, 6-1, 6-4) to No. 60 Alexa Graham of North Carolina.
Freshman Tijana Spasojevic, who posted a 3-0 mark in pre-qualifying action over the weekend to reach the qualifying stage, fell 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) to Emmanuelle Salas of Florida State in the first round of qualifying. Spasojevic later dropped a qualifying singles backdraw match to No. 59 Adriana Reami of North Carolina State 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
The tournament's main draw is scheduled for Oct. 4-7. Granic and sophomore Bojana Markovic, No. 21 in the Oracle/ITA preseason national doubles rankings, will compete in the doubles main draw.
