Anna Turati, Markovic advance to singles finals at ITA Texas Regionals

Anna Turati and Bojana Markovic each register wins on Sunday to move on to Monday’s championship.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — University of Texas junior Anna Turati and sophomore Bojana Markovic each recorded victories on Sunday to advance to the singles final at the ITA Texas Regional Championships at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. The UT teammates will face off in the singles championship on Monday, Oct. 22 at 9:30 a.m. Central.
Turati, the top seed in the tourney, registered a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win in her semifinal match against Texas Tech's Francesca Sella. In Sunday's second semifinal that featured a pair of Longhorns, No. 6 seed Markovic outlasted No. 7 seed sophomore Fernanda Labraña in a hard-fought, three-set match (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).
This marks the second straight year that a pair of Longhorns will compete for the singles championship at the ITA Texas Regionals. Last season, Bianca Turati topped Petra Granic in the final.
UT will have an individual singles champion at the ITA Texas Regional for the third time in the last four years. Breaunna Addison captured the singles title in 2015, and Bianca Turati claimed the championship in 2017.
