No. 6/7 Football falls short at Oklahoma State

The Longhorns saw their six-game winning streak come to an end in Stillwater Saturday night.

STILLWATER, Oklahoma — The University of Texas (6-2, 4-1) fell behind by 17 points two different times, and closed the game to three points on two separate occasions in the fourth quarter before falling 38-35 on the road to Oklahoma State (5-3, 2-3) inside Boone Pickens Stadium on Saturday night. With the loss, the Longhorns saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.
KEY STATISTICS
- Oklahoma State started with good field position after a late hit by the Horns on the opening kickoff, going down the field in four plays for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
- The Longhorns responded in seven plays, as Sam Ehlinger rushed it in to even the score.
- Oklahoma State would score a touchdown and field goal on its next two possessions, increasing the lead to 17-7 as UT punted on each of its next three drives.
- After a missed field goal for Oklahoma State and a Longhorn punt, the Cowboys went down the field in 10 plays to increase the lead to 24-7 with 10:00 left in the first half.
- The Longhorns responded to make it 24-14 with Ehlinger's second rushing TD of the day. On the drive, he completed a 34-yard pass to Lil'Jordan Humphrey and a 36-yard pass to Andrew Beck.
- Oklahoma State took a 31-14 lead into halftime, as they scored on a 36-yard touchdown pass with 1:17 to play.
- Texas began the second half with punts on its first two possessions, but the defense tightened up to force a punt and missed field goal to keep the game at 31-14.
- After the missed field goal, Sam Ehlinger led a touchdown drive, connecting with Andrew Beck for the score.
- After another punt, the Longhorns scored again with 11:47 left in the game to close the deficit to 31-28.
- After the two teams exchanged punts, Oklahoma State scored on a 3rd-and-goal from the 10-yard line to increase the lead to 38-28 with 5:44 to play.
- The Longhorns would go 13 plays and 75 yards to score and close the gap to 38-35 with 1:46 left.
- Texas failed to recover the onside kick, and Oklahoma State converted a 3rd-and-long and was able to run out the clock from there to hold on for victory.
