Women's Tennis' Granic advances to singles main draw at Riviera/ITA All-Americans

UT junior records straight-set victory against No. 67 Erica Oosterhout in Wednesday’s final round of qualifying.
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — University of Texas junior Petra Granic recorded a 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) win against No. 67 Erica Oosterhout of Harvard on Wednesday in the final round of qualifying singles action at Riviera Tennis Center in the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. With her third victory over the last two days of qualifying, Granic advances to Thursday's first round of the main singles draw and will face Stanford's No. 13 Melissa Lord (3:30 p.m. CT).
Granic, No. 40 in the Oracle/ITA preseason national singles rankings, is the first Longhorn to qualify for the main draw of the prestigious Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships since Breaunna Addison accomplished the feat in 2015. The tournament's main draw is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 4 through Sunday, Oct. 7.
Granic and sophomore Bojana Markovic, No. 21 in the Oracle/ITA preseason national doubles rankings, will compete in the doubles main draw. The duo opens play on Thursday in the first round against Oklahoma State's 24th-ranked Sofia Blanco and Lisa Marie Rioux (Noon CT). Should Granic and Markovic win their opening match, they would advance to face Winthrop's ninth-ranked tandem of Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CT.
In other UT Women's Tennis action on Wednesday, junior Bianca Turati dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision to 29-year-old Sherazad Reix (France) in the Round of 32 at the ITF (International Tennis Federation) pro circuit event in Charleston, S.C. Reix is No. 291 in the latest WTA (Women's Tennis Association) world singles rankings. With her recent ITF 15k singles title in Hilton Head, Turati climbed to No. 513 in the WTA rankings.
