Junior All-American posts impressive win against WTA No. 283 Dalma Galfi to move into Wednesday’s Round of 32.
TYLER, Texas — University of Texas junior Bianca Turati registered a dominant 6-3, 6-0 victory against Dalma Galfi on Tuesday in the third and final round of singles qualifying at the ITF (International Tennis Federation) pro circuit 80k event at the Tyler Athletic and Swim Club. With her win on Tuesday, Turati advances to the tournament's 32-player main draw that continues through Sunday, Nov. 4.
Galfi was the No. 1 seed in the tournament's 32-player qualifying draw. She entered the tourney ranked No. 283 in the latest WTA (Women's Tennis Association) world singles rankings. Turati entered the Tyler event at No. 492 in the WTA rankings.
In Tuesday's match, Turati and Galfi both held serve through the first three games as Turati claimed a 2-1 lead. Turati then broke Galfi to move to 3-1, but Galfi answered with a break of her own to close within 3-2. Turati responded with another break of Galfi and then held serve to build a 5-2 cushion. After Galfi held serve, Turati did the same to close out the first set, 6-3.
Turati dominated the second set, winning 29 of the set's 42 total points. She broke Galfi to open the set and never looked back en route to a 6-0 win.
Earlier this fall, Turati won the ITF pro circuit singles championship at the 15k tournament at Hilton Head Island, S.C. (Sept. 30). It marked her third ITF pro circuit singles title this year. She previously claimed back-to-back singles titles in August at the 15k events in Biella, Italy and Sezze, Italy.
