CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – Three Texas women's golfers are among the top-five individually and the No. 2 Longhorns concluded Friday's opening day of the Battle at the Beach in second place at Club Campestre San Jose Golf Club.
No. 22 Auburn leads the field with a three-over-par 287 on Friday. The Longhorns are five strokes back with an eight-over-par 292. Mississippi State is in third place with a 10-over-par 294.
As a team, Texas totaled 62 pars on the opening 18 holes – the most of any team in the field on Friday.
Freshman Hailee Cooper was one of only three golfers to record a round under par and currently sits in a tie for second after a one-under-par 70. Auburn's Kaleigh Telfer holds the lead in the individual standings with a two-under-par 69.
A LOOK AT THE LINEUP
- Cooper is tied for second with a one-under-par 70. She extended her impressive streak of consecutive rounds at par or better to 10 to open her collegiate career. Cooper was tied for the most pars among individuals on Friday with 15. She also had a pair of birdies on the day.
- Sophomore Kaitlyn Papp is tied for fourth with an even-par 71. Each of her 10 rounds this season have come at par or better. Papp recorded 14 pars and two birdies on Friday.
- Senior Maddie Luitwieler, competing as an individual, is tied for fourth with an even-par 71. The round was her best of the 2018-19 season. She carded 14 pars and two birdies. Luitwieler was tied for the best par-four scoring among individuals on Friday [3.89, -1].
- Sophomore Agathe Laisne totaled a three-over-par 74 and is currently in a tie for 25th place.
- Juniors Emilee Hoffman and Greta Isabella Voelker are tied for 45th overall with six-over-par 77s.
