UT sophomore falls in three-set match in consolation singles bracket on Thursday.
SURPRISE, Ariz. — University of Texas sophomore Bojana Markovic dropped a three-set decision (3-6, 6-3, 7-5) to Vanderbilt's Emily Smith on Thursday in the singles consolation Round of 32 at the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships at Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex. With the loss, Markovic concluded her play at the National Fall Championships.
The tournament serves as the culminating event of the fall portion of the college tennis season. In its second year having replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships is the lone event on the collegiate tennis calendar to feature competitors from all five divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO) playing in the same tournament.
Players qualified for the tournament through designated placings at earlier ITA National Championships and the ITA Regional Championships. Markovic earned a spot in the prestigious tournament by virtue of her runner-up finish at the ITA Texas Regional on Oct. 18-22 in College Station, Texas.
