ARLINGTON, Texas — Despite a Big 12 Championship-record 177 receiving yards and a touchdown from junior Collin Johnson, No. 9/9 Texas Football fell, 39-27, to No. 5/5 Oklahoma in the conference title game on Saturday at AT&T Stadium. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger totaled four touchdowns in the game, with two rushing and two passing, the other one going to Lil'Jordan Humphrey.
KEY STATISTICS
• Oklahoma kicked off to begin the game after deferring on the coin toss, and the Longhorns took advantage with a 9-play touchdown drive, capped off by a Sam Ehlinger rushing touchdown.
• The Sooners would get field goals on each of their next two drives to close the gap to 7-6, the latter coming on a nice goal-line stand by the UT defense.
• Texas would take advantage of the stop, going down the field for another 9-play touchdown drive, once against capped off by an Ehlinger rushing TD.
• The Sooners would punt on their next drive, but so would the Longhorns. Oklahoma then closed the gap to one, at 14-13, with an 87-yard scoring drive.
• After another Longhorn drive ended in a punt, Oklahoma went 80 yards in 41 seconds to take a 20-14 lead into halftime.
• Oklahoma started the second half with a touchdown drive to take a 27-14 lead, but the Longhorns responded, scoring on a 27-yard pass from Ehlinger to Collin Johnson to close the gap.
• On the next series, the UT defense forced a three-and-out and followed that stop with an 11-play touchdown drive to even up the score at 27 apiece. Ehlinger found Lil'Jordan Humphrey for the score, but the go-ahead PAT attempt was blocked.
• Oklahoma retook the lead on its next drive, a kick attempt that hit off the upright but still went through.
• Texas was forced to punt on its next drive, but Gary Johnson ran down CeeDee Lamb deep in UT territory to force a fumble and give the Longhorns the ball back. Two snaps later, however, OU brought a corner blitz to force a safety for a 32-27 lead.
• OU added its final score with two minutes left in regulation on an 18-yard pass to make it 39-27. An interception with under a minute remaining sealed the game.
