Box Score
OKLAHOMA CITY—With a 3-1 loss at the hands of Oklahoma, No. 12 Texas Baseball was eliminated from the 2018 Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Championship on Thursday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Longhorns (37-20) will now await their postseason fate during the NCAA selection show on Monday.
Oklahoma got on the board first in the game when, after the Longhorns could not turn the double play, Kyler Murray hit an RBI single to make it 1-0.
In the third, a solo homer pushed the Oklahoma lead to 2-0 and the Sooners tacked on another in the fifth to make it a 3-0 ballgame.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Longhorns strung together an Andy McGuire walk, a Jake McKenzie single, and a David Hamilton bunt single to load the bases. After a double play scored a run, however, the Longhorns couldn't muster anything further and trailed 3-1 after five.
The Longhorns and Sooners went on to trade zeroes for the remaining four frames and Texas was sent home from the league tournament.
Nolan Kingham (7-3) was tabbed with the loss while Chase Shugart, Josh Sawyer, and Parker Joe Robinson combined for 3.2 scoreless out of the bullpen. McKenzie had two hits in the game, as did Big 12 Conference Player of the Year Kody Clemens. Duke Ellis' 16-game hitting streak came to a close, but the sophomore outfielder reached base twice in the ballgame.
The Longhorns will now wait to see if they are granted a hosting opportunity in the NCAA Regional. That announcement will come Sunday night before the entire field is revealed on Monday afternoon.
