Bianca Turati falls in final round of qualifying at ITF Lubbock pro event

Junior All-American drops 6-4, 7-5 decision to Eudice Chong on Monday afternoon.
LUBBOCK, Texas — University of Texas junior Bianca Turati fell 6-4, 7-5 to Eudice Chong (Hong Kong) on Monday afternoon in the third and final round of qualifying at the ITF (International Tennis Federation) pro circuit event at McLeod Tennis Center. Chong is currently No. 616 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) world singles rankings.
Turati trailed 5-2 in the opening set before rallying to win two straight games and pull within 5-4. She had two break points in the next game before Chong managed to hold serve and close out the set.
In the second set, Turati jumped out to a 4-2 lead before Chong won three consecutive games to gain a 5-4 advantage. Turati broke Chong to tie the set at 5-5, before Chong responded with a service break of her own and held serve to finish the match.
Turati is No. 1 in the Oracle/ITA preseason women's collegiate national singles rankings. The 2018 Big 12 Conference Player of the Year posted a 28-4 overall singles mark and ended her sophomore season at No. 3 in the final Oracle/ITA Division I singles rankings. Turati spent nearly three months atop the ITA women's single rankings and produced a 16-2 dual-match record for the Longhorns at the No. 1 singles position in 2018. She became the first UT player to top the ITA singles rankings since Kelly Pace in 1995.
