Women’s Tennis posts five victories on Saturday at Debbie Southern Fall Classic

Longhorns earn four singles wins and Poluta completes doubles action with a 3-0 mark this weekend.
GREENVILLE, S.C. — The University of Texas women's tennis team recorded a total of five victories on Saturday to highlight day two of the 32nd annual Debbie Southern Fall Classic at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University.
Senior Katie Poluta notched a pair of the wins for the Longhorns. Competing in Flight 5 of the doubles competition, Poluta teamed with Vanderbilt's Laurn Gish and defeated Alex Angyalosy and Laura Marti of Clemson by an 8-3 count to complete their doubles weekend with a 3-0 mark. Poluta later returned to register a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Ally Miller of Clemson in Flight 5 singles.
Junior Petra Granic, ranked No. 40 in the preseason Oracle/ITA singles rankings, notched a 2-1 (retire) win against No. 11 Carla Touly of Florida State in Flight 1 singles. Freshman Tijana Spasojevic earned her first collegiate singles victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Furman's Katty Weymouth in Flight 3 singles. Sophomore Fernanda Labraña posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Danni Vines of Furman in Flight 4 singles. Sophomore Bojana Markovic, ranked No. 95, fell 6-4, 6-4 to No. 88 Eliza Omirou of Wake Forest in Flight 2 singles.
Granic and Markovic, the No. 21 duo in the preseason rankings, fell 8-6 to Florida State's pair of Carla Touly and Emmanuelle Salas in the third-place match in Flight 1 doubles. Labraña and Spasojevic lost 8-6 to Summer Dvorak and Emma Kurtz of Vanderbilt in the seventh-place match in Flight 2 doubles.
Singles flight action concludes on Sunday, Sept. 23.
