Women’s Tennis posts three singles wins on Sunday at Debbie Southern Fall Classic

Markovic, Labraña and Poluta record victories on final day in Greenville.
GREENVILLE, S.C. — The University of Texas women's tennis team recorded three singles wins on Sunday to highlight the final day of the 32nd annual Debbie Southern Fall Classic at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University.
Sophomore Bojana Markovic, ranked No. 95 in the preseason Oracle/ITA singles rankings, rallied for an impressive 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 6-4 victory against No. 75 Shiori Fukuda of Ohio State. Markovic's match in Flight 2 singles was canceled, and the match against Fukuda was added to the schedule.
Senior Katie Poluta capped an impressive weekend with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Wake Forest's Anna Brylin in Flight 5 singles. Poluta registered a 2-1 mark in singles play in addition to a 3-0 record in doubles during the tournament.
Sophomore Fernanda Labraña posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Anna Ulyashchenko of Wake Forest in Flight 4 singles. Labraña finished the weekend with a 2-1 mark in singles play.
Junior Petra Granic, ranked No. 40, lost 6-1, 6-0 against No. 16 Emma Davis of Wake Forest in Flight 1 singles. Freshman Tijana Spasojevic fell 6-1, 6-2 against No. 55 Ana Oparenovic of Florida State in Flight 3 singles.
"There's no question our very ordinary performance at this tournament reveals the need for huge improvement, individually and collectively," Texas head coach Howard Joffe said. "Our ladies played with great skill at times, but in most cases it was not sustained. They understand we will need to improve vastly over the course of this fall. Katie (Poluta) played some good doubles. Fernanda (Labraña) showed some glimpses of her potential in her win today, and Bojana (Markovic) played our best match of the weekend and was rewarded with a ranked win."
