MALIBU, Calif. — The University of Texas women's tennis team registered an overall mark of 6-1 Saturday in pre-qualifying round action in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. Freshman Tijana Spasojevic paced the Longhorns with three total victories, including a pair of straight-set wins in singles.

In pre-qualifying doubles action, Spasojevic and sophomore Marta Perez-Mur registered an 8-6 win against Kansas State's duo of Margot Decker and Maria Linares. Spasojevic and Perez-Mur advance to Sunday's second round of pre-qualifying and will face McCartney Kessler and Ida Jarlskog of Florida. Kessler and Jarkskog are ranked No. 57 in the Oracle/ITA preseason national doubles rankings. Spasojevic and Perez-Mur will need to win twice on Sunday to advance to the qualifying stage of the All-American Championships.

In singles play, Spasojevic defeated USC's Becca Weissmann 6-3, 6-1 in the first round. She returned later in the day and topped No. 124 Janet Koch of Kansas 6-3, 7-5. Spasojevic needs to win her third-round match in the pre-qualifying round on Sunday against Pepperdine's Adrijana Lekaj to advance to the qualifying stage.

Sophomore Bojana Markovic, No. 95 in the Oracle/ITA preseason rankings, tallied a 7-5, 6-4 win against Florida State's Ariana Rahmanparast in the first round. She later registered an impressive 6-4, 6-3 victory against No. 92 Tea Jandric of Ole Miss in the second round. Markovic needs to win her third-round match in the pre-qualifying round on Sunday against Wisconsin's Lexi Keberie to move on to the qualifying stage.

Perez-Mur rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win against Jelena Lukic of Portland in the first round. She returned later in the day and dropped a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 decision to USC's Salma Ewing.

Qualifying and main-draw matches will be held at Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Qualifying singles and doubles are set for Oct. 2-3, and the main draw will run Oct. 4-7.
