No. 18 Soccer remains unbeaten with a 2-1 win over Texas State

Junior forward Cyera Hintzen made it six goals over six matches this season with a 27th minute score
AUSTIN, Texas – On a muggy Friday evening under threatening skies at Mike A. Myers Stadium, No. 18 Texas soccer (5-0-1) got first-half goals from junior forward Cyera Hintzen and senior midfielder Katie Glenn, while not allowing a single opposing shot over the last 45:22 of game action, to fight off I-35 rival Texas State, 2-1.
With the triumph, the Longhorns stretched their non-conference home winning streak to 13 straight matches and their September victory skein to nine consecutive contests.
Texas out-shot the Bobcats by a commanding 19-4 total, including 5-2 in shots on goal, and managed a 3-0 advantage on corner kicks.
For Hintzen, her 27th-minute goal marked her Big 12 Conference-leading sixth over just six matches this season, while Glenn's 36th-minute score was her second of the campaign and the Round Rock, Texas, native's first match-winner of 2018. Redshirt sophomore Tecora Turner registered her third assist of the year, while senior forward Alexa Adams chalked up her first helper.
Both teams settled into the contest quickly with Texas managing the match's first shot at 2:50 on a blocked, nine-yard Glenn drive near the back post.
A counter by Texas State got forward Kaylee Davis in some space during the fifth minute, but her eventual 19-yard effort proved wide left.
With the Longhorns controlling the majority of possession throughout the match, the Burnt Orange & White managed a corner at 12:02 following strong work by freshman defender Emma Regan near the right end line. Off a quick start, the ball ended up at the feet of senior midfielder Kayra Dollas about 21 yards out, but her drive went wide right.
Against the run of play, it was the Bobcats that managed to strike first at 15:35. Off a leaping win on a 50-50 ball near midfield, a pass was eventually delivered ahead that found Davis in some space. She quickly moved up the left wing and scored into the lower right corner from 14 yards out to boost TXST to a 1-0 advantage.
Trailing for the first time all season, Texas wasted no time in trying to locate the equalizer as shots from Hintzen (18:32) and sophomore midfielder Haley Berg (26:18) were both blocked.
The Longhorns actually managed to put the ball in the net during the 25th-minute as Hintzen scored off a beautiful one-two play with Berg. Unfortunately for UT, the official on the far side of the pitch had his flag raised for offside to negate the goal.
It wasn't long before the Horns actually found the net for real as an 18-yard Hintzen blast deflected off a Texas State defender's knee and continued on into the twine to dead-lock the match at 1-1.
Just 3:51 later, Adams came desperately close to handing UT the lead as her leaping header near the left post rattled off the cross bar before being cleared.
A ball played inside the 18-yard box during the 36th minute started what would turn out to be Texas' decisive offensive moment in the match. Glenn took possession, passed left to Turner and then received a return feed seconds later. She eventually tried her luck from 14 yards out with her shot trickling past diving TXST keeper Kathryn Budde and just inside the right post for a 2-1 advantage.
Out of the halftime break, Texas dominated the second stanza statistically to the tune of an 8-0 shot advantage over the Bobcats, but a third goal just wouldn't materialize.
Perhaps the best chance TXST had during the final half came in the 63rd-minute as a cross from the right wing ventured just a foot or two over a marked player in the box before going out for a goal kick.
Down the stretch, Glenn forced two saves from 20 and 14 yards out front, Berg had a pair of good opportunities inside the 18 blocked and Hintzen saw her final chance at 84:02 venture wide left.
