No. 6 Women’s Tennis posts six wins on Saturday at Freeman Memorial

Granic advances to the singles final, while Markovic/Labraña earn a spot in the doubles semifinals.
LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The No. 6 University of Texas women's tennis team recorded a total of six victories on Saturday in the Freeman Memorial Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on UNLV's campus. Junior Petra Granic claimed a pair of wins to advance to Sunday's singles final, while the sophomore duo of Bojana Markovic and Fernanda Labraña earned a victory to qualify for Sunday's doubles semifinal.
Granic, No. 53 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, opened the day with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the quarterfinals against Stanford's Niluka Madurawe. She returned later to register a 7-6, 6-1 victory in the semifinals against Melissa Lord of Stanford. Granic, who has not dropped a set in her first four singles matches in Las Vegas, will play Pepperdine's Adriana Lekaj in Sunday's singles final at 2 p.m. Central (Noon Pacific).
Markovic and Labraña registered an impressive 7-5 win against the No. 41-ranked duo of Florida's Tsveta Dimitrova and Ida Jarlskog. With the victory, Markovic and Labraña advance to the semifinal round. Both the doubles semifinals (10 a.m. CT) and final (11 a.m. CT) will be contested on Sunday.
In flight one consolation round two action, No. 49-ranked junior Anna Turati defeated No. 106 Ashley Lahey of Pepperdine by a 6-2, 6-2 score. In an added singles match, senior Katie Poluta rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) win against Florida's Sydney Berlin. In an added doubles contest, Turati and Poluta teamed up to defeat Stanford's Caroline Lampi and Kimberly Lee, 6-3.
Sunday's action will begin with doubles semifinals at Noon Central (10 a.m. Pacific), followed by the doubles final and conclude with the singles final. The prestigious tournament features players from six of the top 11 teams in the most recent ITA national rankings, including No. 1 Stanford, No. 3 North Carolina, No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Pepperdine, No. 8 UCLA and No. 11 Florida along with host UNLV.
