The Longhorns took ninth in their final meet of the regular season.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Texas Women's Cross Country team, sporting a lineup of younger runners, finished ninth among 30 teams in the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted on Saturday by Texas A&M University.
Junior Marissa Flournoy finished 25th among 242 contestants to lead the Longhorn contingent in the 6,000-meter race.
"The competition went pretty well," said Texas distance coach PattiSue Plumer. "It was the first competitive 6k that most of the athletes competing today have ever run. I think it was a little overwhelming, but overall a great learning experience. I was happy with Marissa's race. Her goal was to PR, finish in the top 25 and get a medal – and she did that. So, next time we'll have to set her goal a little higher. Our team's goal was a top-10 finish and we did that. However, even though we met our goals, I still think we could have run a better race."
The Longhorn women's and men's cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2, in the Big 12 Championship meet in Waco, Texas.
