No. 3 Women's Golf captures 2019 Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship

Senior Maddie Luitwieler led the Longhorns with a top-10 finish.
NEW ORLEANS – Senior golfer Maddie Luitwieler posted a top-10 finish and the No. 3 Texas women's golf team captured the 2019 Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship on Tuesday at English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans.
The Longhorns turned in a 12-over-par 876 [285-291-300] to win their second tournament of the year and their fifth in the last two seasons. No. 5 Duke placed second with a 14-over-par 878 [286-296-296], while No. 1 Southern California was third with a 23-over-par 887 [289-291-307]. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, Texas has posted 15 top-five finishes in the 18 events in which it has competed during that span.
The Longhorns defeated 17 teams en route to the victory, including three of the nation's top-10 teams and eight of the country's top-25 squads. Four Longhorns finished within the individual top-20 at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship.
As a team, Texas totaled 179 pars on the week – second-most in the field – and 34 birdies. The Longhorns also posted the best scoring average on par-four [4.14, +21] and par-five [4.98, -1] holes.
A LOOK AT THE LINEUP
- Luitwieler recorded her second career top-10 finish, tying for eighth with a three-over-par 219 [70-73-76]. She logged the second-most pars of any golfer in the field this week with 41.
- Sophomore Agathe Laisne [76-70-74] and freshman Hailee Cooper [69-76-75] each tied for 11th with four-over-par 220s. It marked Cooper's fifth top-20 finish in six events on the year and Laisne's fourth top-20 showing this season.
- Sophomore Kaitlyn Papp tied for 17th with a six-over-par 222 [73-74-75]. She led all individuals on the week with 42 pars. It is Papp's fifth top-20 finish in six events this season.
- Freshman Sára Kousková tied for 34th with an 11-over-par 227 [73-74-80].
