Freshmen lead No. 8 Men’s Golf to second-place finish in San Diego

The three Texas freshmen posted top-10 finishes, led by Hammer’s tie for first.
SAN DIEGO – Freshmen Cole Hammer, Pierceson Coody, and Parker Coody all finished the Lamkin Classic in the top-10 to lead No. 8 Texas Men's Golf to a second-place finish at San Diego Country Club.
The Longhorns finished second by one stroke to Arizona State after firing a third-round 284.
Hammer posted his second-straight tie for first, falling in a playoff to Arizona State's Mason Andersen.
He made five birdies and 11 pars before making an eagle on 17's par-4 and his only bogey of the day on 18.
Freshman Pierceson Coody finished in a tie for fourth at 3-under par, while freshman Parker Coody tied for 10th at even par.
It marks Pierceson's lowest finish of the season and Parker's second-straight top-10 finish.
Senior Steven Chervony fired a 2-under 70 to tie for 34th, while junior Spencer Soosman tied for 38th. Sophomore Christoffer Bring tied for 44th as an individual.
Texas will be back in action from March 17-19 for the Valspar Collegiate Championship at the Floridian National Golf Club.
