Two wins highlight day one at UTSA Invitational

The Longhorns swept the javelin in San Antonio on Friday.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Texas Track & Field program began its outdoor season on Friday afternoon in San Antonio at the UTSA Invitational. The day was highlighted by two victories, as the Longhorns swept the javelin. Graduate transfer Trevor Danielson won on the men's side in his first meet wearing the burnt orange, while redshirt freshman Camille Johnson won on the women's side in her first career meet.
Danielson won with a throw of 71.75m/235-5, nearly 34 feet further than second. His distance makes him the No. 8 performer in school history. In his series, Danielson had four throws of at least 70m. On the women's side, Johnson won with a throw of 44.90m/147-4. That made her the No. 10 performer in the javelin in school history. Katelyn Anderson, competing in her first career meet for the Longhorns as well, finished runner-up to Johnson in the event.
In the hammer throw, school record-holder Elena Bruckner made her season debut in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.41m/181-9, the No. 4 throw in school history.
The Horns will be back in action on Saturday at the UTSA Invitational. Jared Dupree and Marleen Guerrero will compete in the high jump, Bruckner will throw the discus, Olivia Buntin, Grahm Gonzalez and Martha Hughes will pole vault, while Virginia Preiss will run the 800m to open their outdoor campaigns.
