Track & Field posts three wins over weekend at UTSA Invitational

The Longhorn throws group had a strong weekend to open the outdoor campaign.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Texas Track & Field program had continued success on Saturday at the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio. Elena Bruckner highlighted the day with a victory in the discus. Her winning throw of 53.40m/175-2 was the No. 6 throw in school history. Bruckner had a strong series, winning by nearly 12 feet. The school record-holder in the discus, Bruckner had two throws over 53m and four of 51.49m or better.
Several other athletes made their season debuts on Saturday. Marleen Guerrero finished second in the high jump with a personal best, while high jumper Jared Dupree also set a new career best for a third-place finish. Freshman Olivia Buntin finished fifth in her first career outdoor meet, while heptathlete Virginia Preiss opened her outdoor season with a PR of 2:17.87 in the 800m.
The Longhorns, despite a small contingent competing, won three times during the two-day meet. On Friday, Trevor Danielson and Camille Johnson helped the Burnt Orange & White sweep the javelin, while Bruckner also had a strong open to her season in the hammer throw.
UT is back in action at the Roadrunner Invitational next weekend in San Antonio, before hosting the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium March 27-30.
