AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 11 Texas Men's and No. 11 Longhorn Women's Track and Field squads head to College Station for what will be a highly competitive early season meet and the first competition at Texas A&M's E.B. Cushing Stadium. It will be a scored meet and the nationally ranked teams participating along with UT include No. 1 Texas Tech, No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 13 Baylor on the men's side while the women's field features No. 2 Arkansas, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 18 Texas Tech, and No. 23 Baylor. The one-day meet begins with field events at 12:30 p.m. and also will feature teams from Clemson, Illinois and Oklahoma.
Texas is coming off hosting the 2019 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays that saw the Longhorns take nine events throughout the week, highlighted by Big 12 Athlete of the Week Ashtin Zamzow setting a school record in the heptathlon with 6,148 points. The senior, who established six personal records in the seven-event competition, became the first-ever Longhorn to win that event at the Texas Relays and improved her UT heptathlon record by 300 points. In addition to Zamzow, the Longhorns individual victories were highlighted by an Anna McDonald and Alex Rogers sweep in the 3000m steeplechase and tremendous winning performances from Sam Worley (Jerry Thompson Mile) and Teahna Daniels (200m Invitational). Texas also claimed a trio of relay crowns with the men and women both capturing the distance medley relay titles and the men winning the sprint medley relay.
"It was a mixed bag at the Relays – we had a lot of great performers but we are still a work in progress with many capable athletes on the fence," said first-year Longhorn Head Coach Edrick Floreal. "However, I'm confident that we are heading in the correct direction. The Reveille is a big opportunity to be a part of Texas history. With the rich history between Texas and Texas A&M, I realize how important it is that we are present in the opening of their brand-new facility. We are looking forward to it and seeking individual NCAA regionals marks and some break through performances on Saturday."
After the Reveille, UT will head out to the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. from April 17-20.
