No. 2 Women's Golf leads NCAA Championship after opening day

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior Emilee Hoffman fired a one-under-par 72 on Friday and the No. 2 Texas women's golf team is tied for the lead at the NCAA Championship after the opening day at Blessings Golf Club.
The Longhorns carded a 10-over-par 302 on Friday and are tied with host and No. 10 Arkansas. No. 4 Arizona and No. 7 Stanford are tied for third with 12-over-par 304s, while No. 3 Duke is in fifth with a 13-over-par 305.
Friday's round was the first of three rounds of stroke play in which all 24 teams will participate. The field will be cut to the top-15 teams for a fourth round of stroke play on Monday. The top-eight teams after 72 holes of stroke play will compete in a match-play format for the NCAA Championship beginning on Tuesday.
As a team, Texas led the field with 61 pars on Friday and also totaled eight birdies. The Longhorns also had the best average of any team on par-four holes [4.27, +12].
A LOOK AT THE LINEUP
- Hoffman led the Longhorns with a one-under-par 72, which puts her in a tie for second individually. She is three strokes off the individual lead held by Arizona's Bianca Pagdanganan [69, -4]. Hoffman led all individuals in the field on Friday with 15 pars. She also added two birdies. Friday's round marked her ninth of the season at par or better.
- Sophomore Agathe Laisne is tied for 13th overall with a two-over-par 75. She totaled 12 pars and two birdies on the day.
- Sophomore Kaitlyn Papp is tied for 27th place with a four-over-par 77. She carded 11 pars and two birdies in the opening round.
- Freshman Sara Kouskova is tied for 39th place with a five-over-par 78.
- Freshman Hailee Cooper is tied for 67th with a seven-over-par 80.
