Trio from Women’s Tennis advance to NCAA singles second round

ORLANDO, Fla. — University of Texas women's tennis juniors Anna Turati, Bianca Turati and Petra Granic each posted straight-set wins on Monday in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships at the USTA National Campus. The trio of Longhorns advance to Tuesday's Round of 32.
No. 38 Anna Turati began the day with an impressive 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) victory against the No. 8 seed Sophie Whittle of Gonzaga. Turati improved to 26-3 overall in singles play this season and earned her 19th consecutive singles victory. Turati will face No. 32 Elysia Bolton of UCLA in Tuesday's second round at Noon Central.
No. 54 Granic followed with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win against No. 91 Iuliaa Bryzgalova of Pennsylvania. Granic improved to 23-6 overall in singles action this year. She will face the No. 6 seed Fernanda Contreras of Vanderbilt in Tuesday's second round at 10:30 a.m. Central.
No. 28 Bianca Turati concluded the evening session with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 victory against No. 31 Carla Touly of Florida State. Turati improved to 12-7 in singles play this season. She will face the No. 2 seed Katarina Jokic of Georgia in Tuesday's second round in a match that will not start prior to 5 p.m. Central.
The NCAA singles competition continues through May 25 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. All matches will be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker at six-games-all will be used for all matches.
Tennis Channel will provide live coverage of the NCAA Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles Championships beginning at 3 p.m. Central on Tuesday, May 21. Bianca Turati's match against Jokic is a featured match covered by Tennis Channel and will be played on Court 2.
