05.08.2019 | Women's Golf
It marked Texas fifth victory of the 2018-19 season.
NORMAN, Okla. – The top-seeded and second-ranked University of Texas women's golf team won the 2019 NCAA Norman Regional on Wednesday by nine strokes at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club to advance the Longhorns to the NCAA Championship for the fourth consecutive year.
It was a historic victory for the Longhorns as it marked the first time in program history that Texas won an NCAA Regional since regional play began with the 1992-93 season. It was the fifth team win of the season for the Longhorns, who became just the third team in school history to win five or more tournaments in a single season.
Texas marches on to the 2019 NCAA Championship, to be contested May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. It will be the 28th all-time NCAA Championship appearance in program history.
Texas carded a nine-under-par three-round total of 855 [287-281-287], which tied for the 10th-best 54-hole total in school history. No. 7 Wake Forest and No. 10 Florida tied for second place with even-par 864s.
As a team, Texas finished with the best scoring average of all teams in the field on par-three [2.98, -1] and par-five [4.80, -12] holes. The Longhorns tallied 39 birdies – second-most of any team – and 189 pars on the week.

HEAD COACH RYAN MURPHY
On the Longhorns winning the NCAA Norman Regional …
"It was a great day yesterday and a great day today. That is obviously what propelled us. I'm excited to get to nationals and this team is excited to get to nationals. It's nice to win in Norman, Oklahoma."
On Texas earning its fifth win of the year and winning an NCAA Regional for the first time in program history …
"I didn't realize that we hadn't won a regional. That's pretty cool. All of that stuff adds up to belief and confidence going forward. It can only help us. Every time you win, it adds confidence. This is the second time we've won against a really great field. I think all the doubts in their mind should be gone. If they didn't know already, they do now – we're a pretty good team."
On the team's individual performances in the NCAA Norman Regional …
"Individually, Agathe played great again and had a chance to win. I'm happy that she made that birdie on the last hole to get her back in the top-three. Great tournament for her. A great tournament by Pappy as usual. Collectively, if you look at our scores, we're just consistently good top to bottom. Hailee Cooper had a great round today after struggling a little bit. That's our team. All five on any given day can shoot a really good score."
