10 drop first team All-America runs throughout the week.
AUSTIN, Texas – 19 student-athletes on the Texas Track & Field squads earned All-American honors following the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Mike A. Myers Stadium from June 5-8. In total, the Longhorns picked up 26 different honors in 17 events throughout the week in Austin. First team All-Americans include the top eight finishers, 8-16 earn second team and 17-24 are named honorable mention in each event.
On the women's side, 10 different Longhorns earned top 24 finishes, including five that had individual first team runs or were members of the 4x100 relay team (eighth-place). Senior Teahna Daniels led the way with three first team All-America runs in the 100m, 200m and 4x100 relay, finishing her career with six first team honors. Senior Ashtin Zamzow had the high finish of the outdoor championships, winning Texas' first heptathlon in program history. Her 6,222 points were the ninth-most by a collegian and only the second time a heptathlete has won the event on her home track. It was just her second first team All-America honor of her career (2019, pentathlon).
The men's program secured their most first teamers (5) in the outdoor season since 2015, with four earning a top-eight finish for the first time in their career (Micaiah Harris – 200m, Jonathan Jones – 400m, Alex Rogers – steeplechase, O'Brien Wasome – triple jump). After taking fourth-place at last year's championships, sophomore Tripp Piperi won the shot put title for his second-straight first team All-American honor. Piperi dropped a new personal best (69-3 ¼) on his second attempt, becoming the second Longhorn in the last six years to win the NCAA outdoor shot put title (Ryan Crouser – 2014). His throw was the fifth-best throw on Longhorn record, only trailing the Olympic gold medalist Crouser, who has the top four marks.
