Baseball’s Hamilton and Henley selected on day two of MLB Draft

Astros select Blair Henley and Brewers pick David Hamilton Tuesday in the MLB Draft.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball right-handed pitcher Blair Henley and shortstop David Hamilton were selected on the second day of the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday. Henley was selected by the Houston Astros in the seventh round (226th pick) and Hamilton was picked by the Milwaukee Brewers in the eighth round (253rd pick).
A three-year starting pitcher for the Longhorns, Henley made 39 career starts and logged 222 innings pitched in his career. He recorded a 3.65 ERA and 173 career strikeouts.
This season as a junior, Henley led Texas with a 6-4 record on the mound and finished the year with a 3.54 ERA in 73 2/3 innings. He tossed seven quality starts and pitched through the sixth inning in nine of his 13 starts.
Hamilton, who missed the 2019 season due to injury, started 125 career games at shortstop for the Longhorns and batted .256 for his career with 18 doubles, eight triples and five home runs.
As a sophomore in 2018, he was the team's second-leading hitter with a .291 batting average with seven doubles, six triples and five homers. Named to the All-Big 12 second team, he led the Longhorns with 31 stolen bases. Defensively, he helped turn a nation-leading 73 double plays.
Additionally Texas Baseball signee Brett Baty, an infielder from Lake Travis High School, was selected with the 12th overall pick in the first round by the New York Mets.
The 2019 Major League Baseball draft will conclude on Wednesday with rounds 11-40.
