Women’s 4x100 relay, heptathlete Ashtin Zamzow and Teahna Daniels competing in the 100m and 200m finals highlight Longhorns final day in Austin
AUSTIN, Texas – Competition at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will wrap up Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium with the women's running, field and heptathlon finals. UT will have three individuals competing in finals and its 4x100 relay team in the hunt for a national title.
The 4x100m relay team of Kennedy Simon, Teahna Daniels, Zola Golden and Kynnedy Flannel sprinted to a time of 42.84 on Thursday to finish second in their heat and automatically advance to today's final. The 42.84 clocking matched the second-best time in school history and was the fastest 4x100m relay for the Longhorns in 14 years (since 2006).
Teahna Daniels also advanced to the finals in the 100m and 200m on Thursday with her clocking of 11.02 (tied for eighth-best in UT history) in the 100m and 22.65 (tied for 10th-best in UT history) in the 200m. The senior now holds two of the top 10 times in both the 100m and 200m and is just the second Longhorn to qualify for both finals at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in over 10 years. That was last done by Morolake Akinosun in 2016. Daniels will have another busy day running in the 4x100m relay at 5:32 p.m. CT and following with the 100m finals at 6:22 p.m. and the 200m finals at 7:07 p.m.
After setting or matching personal bests in three of the first four events of the heptathlon on Friday, senior Ashtin Zamzow sits in second-place (3,711) and just 161 points back from Texas A&M's Tyra Gittens. The senior started day one of the competition by breaking her own personal-best in the 100m hurdles (13.33; previous: 13.64), high jumped 1.78m (5-10) to match a career best and then closed out the night with a PR in the 200m (24.23; previous: 24.66). She'll start her hunt for national title at 1:30 p.m. CT with the long jump.
Georgia Wahl will compete in the first flight of the finals of the triple jump beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT. She enters Saturday with a personal-best of 12.87m/ 42-2 ¾ and as the 23rd seed. The 4x100 relay will kick off the running events at 5:32 p.m. CT, while Teahna Daniels will sprint for titles at 6:22 p.m. CT and 7:07 p.m. CT in the 100 and 200m, respectively.
