THE ALL-TIME SERIES
• Texas is set to face off with Iowa State for the 18th time in program history on Friday, and for the 10th time in Austin.
• The Longhorns are 14-3 against the Cyclones all-time, and 8-1 when the teams face off at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
• Texas has outscored Iowa State by 120 points in nine all-time meetings in Austin, a margin of 13.3 points per game.
• UT's 0.824 winning percentage against Iowa State is its second-best mark against any current or former member of the Big 12 Conference.
• Texas won its first two meetings against the Cyclones under head coach Tom Herman, but the Horns were bested, 23-21, on a walk-off 36-yard field goal in Ames last season.
TEXAS VS. THE TOP 25
• Texas holds an 9-9 record against top-25 foes during Tom Herman's three seasons as head coach. The Longhorns are 8-5 against ranked opponents since the start of the 2018 season after going just 1-4 against top-25 teams in 2017, Herman's first season in charge.
• In 2018, the Longhorns bested No. 5 Georgia, No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 17 TCU, No. 18 Iowa State and No. 22 USC.
• Texas' 2018 wins over No. 22 USC and No. 17 TCU came in consecutive weeks, marking the first time UT defeated top-25 foes in back-to-back weeks since 2008.
• Last season, Texas picked up two ranked victories, first defeating No. 16 Kansas State, 27-24, in Austin. Later, the Longhorns bested No. 11 Utah, 38-10, in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
• The Longhorns knocked off No. 6 Oklahoma State, 41-34, in overtime to pick up their first ranked win of 2020. It was Texas' first road win over a top-10 team since 2010, when the Longhorns bested No. 7 Nebraska in Lincoln.
HEAD COACH TOM HERMAN
• Tom Herman is in his sixth season overall as a head coach with a career record of 52-21 (.712). He is in his fourth season at Texas with a mark of 30-17 (.638).
• Herman won his 50th career game as a head coach, and 28th at Texas, in a 27-16 triumph over Baylor on Oct. 24, 2020.
• He won his 30th game at Texas one week later, as the Longhorns bested West Virginia, 17-13, in Austin.
• Herman's 30 wins are the fourth-most by a UT coach during his first four seasons at the helm in Austin.
• He owns a career mark of 15-9 against top-25 opponents, 6-6 against top-10 foes and 3-3 versus teams ranked in the top five.
• Including the 2020 season, Herman has spent 17 of his 23 seasons as a coach in the state of Texas on the collegiate level.
• Herman graduated from Cal Lutheran and received his master's degree in education from The University of Texas.
WITH TIME TO PREPARE
• Tom Herman's teams across his head coaching career are 11-1 (8-1 at Texas) when given more than one week to prepare for an opponent. That includes a 5-0 mark since the start of the 2019 season.
• In 2020, Texas is 2-0 in such instances, picking up an overtime road win over Texas Tech following its first bye week of the season in September and Saturday's win over Baylor.
• His mark in such games also includes a 4-0 record in bowl games (3-0 at Texas).
• Including Herman's two seasons at Houston, his teams have scored 419 points (38.1 ppg) and allowed 263 (23.9 ppg) when Herman's teams are coming off at least one extra week of preparation.
HOME, SWEET HOME
• The Longhorns are 16-6 at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium in four years under Tom Herman. That includes an 11-4 record against the Big 12, and a 3-2 mark against ranked opponents.
• Texas is 13-3 at home over the past three seasons, including an 9-2 record versus the Big 12. UT was 10-8 in home games in the three years prior to Herman's arrival, including a 6-6 record against Big 12 opponents.
• Across four home games this season, Texas has racked up 1,869 yards of total offense (1,171 pass/698 rush). That avearges out to 467.3 yards of total offense, 292.8 passing yards and 174.5 rushing yards per game.Defensively, UT's opponents have scored only 63 points in Austin so far this season, an average of just 15.8 points per game.
• In five games at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium last season, the Longhorns averaged 39.2 points per game and racked up 2,597 yards of total offense (519.4 pg). UT was 4-1 on its home turf in 2019, falling only seven points in a shootout against the eventual national champions, LSU.
• Texas' 10 wins in Austin across the 2018-19 seasons mark the first time the Longhorns have won at least 10 home games in a two-year stretch since 2008-09.
• The Longhorns had lost three-straight home games and five of their last seven at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium before Herman arrived for the 2017 season. That stretch included a 2-5 record in Big 12 contests.
