The Longhorns rushed for 334 yards and seven touchdowns on Saturday in Manhattan.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Texas Football program earned its fourth-straight win over Kansas State, besting the Wildcats, 69-31, on Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium. The win improves Texas to 6-3 (5-3 Big 12) and drops the Wildcats to 4-6 (4-5 Big 12) this season.
KEY MOMENTS
• After forcing a three-and-out to open the game, the Texas offense stormed down the field, covering 81 yards in seven plays to take an early 7-0 lead. QB Sam Ehlinger completed 5-of-6 passes for 69 yards and true freshman RB Bijan Robinson capped the drive with a 12-yard run – his first collegiate touchdown.
• True freshman DB Jerrin Thompson, making his first career start, snagged his first career interception and returned it 21 yards to set up the Texas offense at the K-State 3-yard line. Sophomore RB Roschon Johnson punched it into the endzone on the Longhorns' first play of the drive, giving Texas a 17-0 first quarter lead.
• The Wildcats cut the lead to 10 late in the first quarter with an eight-play touchdown drive, but Robinson quickly extended the lead again with a 30-yard touchdown run on the opening play of the second quarter. It was Robinson's second rushing touchdown of the first half, and Texas' third of the game.
• Johnson notched his second rushing touchdown of the game in the second quarter as well, scampering in from seven yards out to cap Texas' fifth-straight scoring drive. His score gave the Horns a 31-10 lead, and was their fourth of the game – tying the team's season-high mark (4 vs. Oklahoma).
• K-State freshman RB Deuce Vaughn scored his second rushing touchdown of the first half with just under 90 seconds remaining in the second quarter to cut Texas' lead to 31-17.
• Robinson scored for a third time, breaking a 75-yard run on Texas' first possession of the second half. It was the sixth-longest run by a freshman in school history, and the longest by a Longhorn since Chris Warren III logged a 91-yard run vs. Texas Tech in 2015.
• Robinson's touchdown was only the beginning for Texas in the second half, as UT scored 35 points in the third quarter, capped by a pair of passing touchdowns from Ehlinger. The captain first found senior TE Cade Brewer on a 15-yard touchdown, and then a 32-yard strike to Malcolm Epps on the Longhorns' ensuing possession.
• Cameron Dicker pushed Texas' tally to 69 points midway through the fourth quarter with a 21-yard field goal – his second of the game. The 69-point tally marked Texas' best offensive output since scoring 70 in the 2005 Big 12 Championship Game vs. Colorado.
UP NEXT
