The Details
Texas utilized the long ball to take early control over Weber State in the bottom of the first. After a perfect one-out Jefferson bunt single, Iakopo hammered a towering shot directly over the left field foul pole for a 2-0 lead. With senior designated player Miranda Elish on through a single to right, Rhodes immediately cashed her in by blasting a two-run shot of her own to left center to make it 4-0.
The Wildcats answered back with a long ball of their own in the top of the second as designated player Mariah Ramirez became the first opponent to hit a HR off a Texas pitcher this season with a two-run shot to cut the deficit to 4-2.
With two Longhorns aboard in the bottom of the second, Iakopo struck again by driving a two-run double to the wall in right center. After a Weber State throwing error on a steal attempt allowed another run to cross, Washington ripped a RBI single up the middle to boost the gap to 8-2.
WSU wouldn't quit, however, as the Wildcats strung together four singles off O'Leary in the fifth to plate two more to make it 8-4.
Iakopo added an insurance run for the Burnt Orange & White on a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, and from there, Day allowed a one-out Weber State single in the seventh but nothing else as Texas prevailed, 9-4.
