Volleyball sweeps Oklahoma in opener

NORMAN, Okla. – Texas Volleyball swept Oklahoma, 25-18, 25-16, 25-21, in the season-opening match on Thursday at McCasland Field House.
Junior Logan Eggleston led the team with 17 kills, hitting .406, adding two digs and a block. Skylar Fields added 13 kills, while Molly Phillips had nine kills and five blocks. Brionne Butler finished with five kills and a team-high six blocks.
Jhenna Gabriel totaled 37 assists on the match and added five digs. Morgan O'Brien had 14 digs in her Texas debut, adding three assists.
Early in the first set, Oklahoma held a 15-14 lead before the Longhorns turned it around and outscored the Sooners 10-4 down the stretch. Texas held a slim 15-14 lead in the second set before finishing on a 10-2 run. In the third set, Oklahoma tied it up 21-21 before Texas scored the final four points of the match.
The Longhorns and Sooners will return to action on Friday at 6 p.m. on ESPNU to complete the opening week doubleheader.
