Myers Stadium, goals from freshman midfielder Lexi Missimo and senior midfielder Julia Grosso helped Texas soccer (8-3-3, 4-0-1 Big 12 Conference) secure head coach Angela Kelly's 100th career Texas win with a 2-0 shutout of Iowa State (4-7-0, 1-2-0 Big 12 Conference).
Texas Team Notes

- Texas leads the all-time series over Iowa State, 25-3-1, including 12-1-0 in Austin.
The Details
It was Texas freshman forward Holly Ward that created the first scoring opportunity for either squad at 5:44 as her shot from the upper left top of the box bent outside the right post.
McFarland made her presence felt for the Longhorns at 6:37 as the Coppell, Texas, native headed a Missimo cross directly into Iowa State goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz's arms from seven yards out.
The Cyclones got on to the board shot-wise during the 14th minute as Morina Suter-Doerig drove a 17-yard effort right to Texas fifth-year senior keeper Savannah Madden for her first of three total saves.
After ISU forced another Madden stop at 20:53, Byars found herself on the receiving end of a long pass into space in the left edge of the box. It appeared that the Richardson, Texas, product might be able to race in 1-v-1 against the keeper, but Iowa State's defense rallied quickly to close down space as Byars could only bend a 17-yard attempt outside the right post.
Arguably, ISU's most dangerous chance of the match came in the 36th minute. Off a free kick from outside the top of the box, a ball in towards the six eluded Madden's catch attempt in a crowd. It dropped right in front of a Cyclones player about six yards out, but she couldn't get off a shot before Texas managed to clear the danger.
Grosso tried her luck from 25 yards out at the 41:00 mark, but her one-hopper traveled right to Silkowitz for a save.
Finally, Texas managed to break the scoreless deadlock as Iowa State failed to clear its defensive lines at 42:00. Out near the top right corner of the 18, Lapomarda managed to tap a pass forward to McFarland who turned and took a dribble up-field before crossing into the middle. Missimo out-fought her marker to tuck a left-footed shot home from six yards out to make it 1-0.
The Longhorns threatened again right out of the halftime break as Ward again charged up the left wing in possession. The North Vancouver, British Columbia, native crossed a ball to Byars just inside the top of the box. The forward took possession and tried to pick her spot in the upper 90 but saw her shot blocked away and cleared.
The Cyclones created another solid scoring chance at 52:05 as Anna Lindgren lifted her boot high to volley a shot on frame from the middle of the 18. Madden was positioned perfectly, however, as the net minder dove fully extended to her right to deflect the effort away.
Back at the other end, Byars and Grosso then combined to double the Longhorns lead at 54:01. Off a corner, Grosso headed a ball from outside the top of the box in to Byars standing about seven yards out. Byars controlled the pass and delivered it right back to a charging Grosso who scored just inside the left post from 12 yards for a 2-0 advantage.
With Texas working hard in possession to see out the remainder of the match, ISU managed just one more shot the rest of the way as Lindgren shot wide right at 83:49.
