No. 2 Volleyball sweeps Rice to advance to NCAA Regional Semifinal

The Longhorns advance to their 16th-consecutive NCAA Regional appearance with a sweep of Rice.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Volleyball swept Rice, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19, in the NCAA Second Round on Friday at Gregory Gymnasium. With the win, the Longhorns (26-1) advance to their 16th-consecutive NCAA Regional Semifinal.
Texas will host next week's NCAA Regional on Thursday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 11 at Gregory Gymnasium.
Despite the sweep, the match was a battle throughout and was closely contested. Texas hit a season-high of .490 in the match, while Rice had the highest hitting percentage by any Texas opponent this season at .340.
Skylar Fields led the Longhorns with 18 kills, while hitting .432 in the match. The junior was outstanding in the third set, accounting for five of the final eight points and finishing with nine total kills in the set.
Logan Eggleston had her eighth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 17 digs, finishing with a .500 hitting percentage.
Molly Phillips finished with 11 kills and a .556 hitting percentage, while Brionne Butler had seven kills and three blocks.
Jhenna Gabriel dished out 41 assists and finished with six digs, four service aces and one kill. Nalani Iosia finished with 11 kills and four assists.
The Longhorns will learn their NCAA Regional opponents after completion of Second Round matches on Saturday.
