Track and Field remains ranked in USTFCCCA top 10

The Longhorns climbed to No. 4 in the men’s rankings and are at No. 6 in the women’s this week.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Track and Field program continued to occupy spots in the top 10 of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) National Rating Index this week, with the men slotted at No. 4 and the women at No. 6. Both Texas teams have been ranked inside the top 10 for the duration of the 2021 campaign to date.
This past weekend, the Longhorns swept the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, winning the women's title with a meet-record 207 points and doing so with a 173-point effort in the men's counterpart. The UT women were victorious by 93 points in total, while the men triumphed by a 29-point margin.
Sunday's Championship victories completed the Longhorns' full sweep of the 2021 Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor titles. It is only the fifth time in league history a team has achieved that feat, with Texas responsible for four of those efforts (1999, 2006, 2015, 2021). Nebraska is the only other current or former Big 12 member institution to sweep the conference's Track and Field titles in the same year, doing so back in 2000. Saturday's victories also brought the Texas Track and Field program to 77 conference titles all-time (54 men/23 women).
The Longhorns claimed 18 event titles in total (7 men/11 women) and had 48 student-athletes (26 men/22 women) contribute to the team score across 40 different events. In total, the Longhorns produced at least one point in 95.2% of the 42 scored events at this year's conference meet. Kynnedy Flannel earned Women's High Point performer honors after scoring 22.5 points. Flannel won individual titles in the 100- and 200-meter dashes – worth 10 points apiece - along with helping Texas claim the 4x100-meter crown as the anchor leg on that team.
The Longhorns continue their postseason journey in two weeks at the NCAA West Preliminary Round (May 26-29) in College Station, Texas. That field will be filled by the top-48 competitors in each event on the men's and women's side, with the top-12 finishers at the meet advancing to the NCAA Championships in June.
