No. 1 Volleyball sweeps No. 20 San Diego in return to Gregory Gym

The Longhorns started the season with a 3-0 sweep of the nationally ranked San Diego Toreros.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas Volleyball finished a 3-0 sweep of No. 20 San Diego, 25-19, 25-15, 25-15, to open the season on Friday night at Gregory Gymnasium. The Longhorns returned to Gregory for the first time since the 2019 season, playing in front of a crowd of 3,751 that included a record student turnout of 1,604.
Texas finished the match on a 9-0 run, with Skylar Fields accounting for four kills during that run. Fields finished the match with a team-high 12 kills and added two blocks. She had seven kills in a dominant third set.
Logan Eggleston finished with 10 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. Asjia O'Neal added eight kills and two blocks, while Molly Phillips had five kills and three blocks. Brionne Butler had a team-high four kills to go with two kills.
Jhenna Gabriel dished out 24 assists and had seven digs. Libero Nalani Iosia finished with 10 digs and six assists.
The Longhorns were locked in a close first set, as both teams saw their first game action of the season. Texas held a slim 14-13 lead midway through the set, but ripped off a 10-4 run to effectively finish it off.
The final two sets were relatively comfortable for the Longhorns, leading nearly wire-to-wire.
Texas will be back in action against UTSA on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gregory Gym. Texas is 10-0 all-time and 7-0 at home against the Roadrunners.
